Integrated VRV/VRF systems often confuse people, due to the two names used to describe them. VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) and VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) refer to the same system, but VRV has been trademarked by the original designers of the system so VRF is more commonly used. This is a sophisticated, multi-unit system which consists of an outdoor unit and several indoor units, with refrigerant piping running from the outdoors to the indoors using Refnet Joints and communication wiring. It can offer solely heating, or solely cooling, or both combined.

A Heat Exchange system consists of multiple units, which compresses the water, leading to a drop in temperature, therefore allowing for cool air to be piped through the systems. This system can provide both heating and cooling to keep your space at the optimum temperature.

In a chilled-water system, the entire air conditioner is installed on the roof or behind the building. It cools water between 4.4-7.2 degrees celsius, which is then piped throughout the building and connected to air handlers. This is great for buildings where many individual rooms must be controlled separately, such as hotels. This can be installed to provide both heat and cooling.
